The Glory of God

(Exodus 24:17 NIV) To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.

(Exodus 33:13-19 NIV) If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people." {14} The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." {15} Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. {16} How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" {17} And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name." {18} Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory." {19} And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

(Exodus 34:5-8 NIV) Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. {6} And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, {7} maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." {8} Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped.

(Numbers 14:19-23 NIV) In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now." {20} The LORD replied, "I have forgiven them, as you asked. {21} Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the LORD fills the whole earth, {22} not one of the men who saw my glory and the miraculous signs I performed in Egypt and in the desert but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times-- {23} not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their forefathers. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it.

(Deuteronomy 5:24-25 NIV) And you said, "The LORD our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him. {25} But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.

(Psalms 19:1-3 NIV) For the director of music. A psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. {2} Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. {3} There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.

(Psalms 63:1-3 NIV) A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. {2} I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. {3} Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

(Psalms 111:1-4 NIV) Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. {2} Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them. {3} Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. {4} He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate.

(Psalms 113:3-8 NIV) From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised. {4} The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. {5} Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, {6} who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? {7} He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; {8} he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people.

(Psalms 138:5-6 NIV) May they sing of the ways of the LORD, for the glory of the LORD is great. {6} Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the lowly, but the proud he knows from afar.

(Psalms 145:1-20 NIV) A psalm of praise. Of David. I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. {2} Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. {3} Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. {4} One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. {5} They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. {6} They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. {7} They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. {8} The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. {9} The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made. {10} All you have made will praise you, O LORD; your saints will extol you. {11} They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, {12} so that all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. {13} Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. {14} The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. {15} The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. {16} You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. {17} The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made. {18} The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. {19} He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. {20} The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.

(Isaiah 6:3 NIV) And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."

(Isaiah 40:4-5 NIV) Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. {5} And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

(Isaiah 58:6-11 NIV) "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? {7} Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-- when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? {8} Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. {9} Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. "If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, {10} and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. {11} The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

(Isaiah 60:1-2 NIV) "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. {2} See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you.

(Isaiah 66:10-13 NIV) "Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her. {11} For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance." {12} For this is what the LORD says: "I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees. {13} As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."

(Habakkuk 2:14 NIV) For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

(Luke 2:9-11 NIV) An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. {10} But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. {11} Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

(John 1:14 NIV) The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

(John 11:4 NIV) When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it."

(John 11:40-44 NIV) Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" {41} So they took away the stone. (Romans 3:23-26 NIV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, {24} and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. {25} God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-- {26} he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

(Romans 5:1-5 NIV) Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, {2} through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. {3} Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; {4} perseverance, character; and character, hope. {5} And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

(Romans 15:4-7 NIV) For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. {5} May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, {6} so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. {7} Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

(1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV) So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

(2 Corinthians 3:16-18 NIV) But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. {17} Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. {18} And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

(2 Corinthians 4:3-7 NIV) And even if our Gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. {4} The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. {5} For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. {6} For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. {7} But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

(Ephesians 3:14-21 NIV) For this reason I kneel before the Father, {15} from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. {16} I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, {17} so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, {18} may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, {19} and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. {20} Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, {21} to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

(Philippians 2:9-11 NIV) Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, {10} that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, {11} and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

(Colossians 1:27 NIV) To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

(2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 NIV) But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. {14} He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(Hebrews 1:1-3 NIV) In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, {2} but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. {3} The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

(Revelation 21:22-24 NIV) I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. {23} The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. {24} The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.
