What we believe - Basic Doctrines
- The Holy Bible is the inspired
word of God
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good
work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- The deity of the Lord
Jesus Christ
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by
him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:1-3)
Now,
brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you
received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are
saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you
have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first
importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the
Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After
that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same
time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. (1
Corinthians 15:1-6)
In this the love of God was manifested toward us,
that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live
through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us
and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:9-10)
-
Salvation
by grace through faith in Jesus Christ
(Ephesians 2:4-9) But God,
who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ
(by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit
together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come
He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us
in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that
not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should
boast.
- The gospel is to be
proclaimed to all of creation with signs following believers
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to
every creature. “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he
who does not believe will be condemned. “And these signs will follow
those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak
with new tongues; “they will take up serpents; and if they drink
anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the
sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:15-18)
- God’s commandments are based on love. We are to be instruments of
God’s love
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your
heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and
great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor
as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the
Prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you
must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my
disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35)
- The fruit of the Holy Spirit
should be evident in a believer
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such
there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh
with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk
in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25)
-
The gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit should
be evident in a believer's life
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are
differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of
activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the
manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the
word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same
Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the
working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of
spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the
interpretation of tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:4-10)
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. And God has
appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third
teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps,
administrations, varieties of tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:27-28)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you
will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to
the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has
given us of His Spirit. (1 John 4:13)
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of
God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is
not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the
Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Romans 8:9-10)
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again
to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out,
“Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that
we are children of God, and if children, then heirs; heirs of God and
joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be
glorified together. (Romans 8:14-17)
