LITTLETON, Colorado Two teen-age gunmen at Columbine High School shot students
they knew were Christians. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold also went after athletes and
minority students, and some of their victims appeared to be chosen randomly, news reports
said. ...Cassie Bernall, known for carrying her
Bible to school every day and wearing a "What Would Jesus Do?" bracelet, was
in the library at the Littleton, Colo., school April 20 when a gunman burst in. He went up
to Bernall and stood face-to-face with her, witnesses said. ..."Do you believe in God?" the gunman asked. Bernall said she believed
in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was shot in the temple, witnesses said.
Bernall, who became a Christian two years ago, was studious and a member of her youth
group at West Bowles Community Church in Littleton. ...Rachael Scott, 17, who also was killed
in the library, was known as a strong Christian. She attended Orchard Road Christian
Church, an Assemblies of God congregation pastored by Wallace Hickey. Scott led a weekly
prayer and Bible study group of fellow teens for the past year and a half, Hickey said,
according to Assemblies of God News Service. Lori Anderson, another pastor, said Scott was
"a remarkable, committed Christian girl who had a passion for God and for people. She
was fun-loving and gifted in drama and public speaking." ..."This has made a major impact on the other students who knew of
Rachaels testimony," pastor Bruce
Porter of Celebration Christian Church said. He spoke to 1,500 people at a memorial
service April 22, urging his listeners to "receive the grace of Jesus to heal our
wounds and resurrect our community out of this morass of pain and confusion." ...John Tomlin, 16, another victim, attended a Baptist church twice a week to
participate in a youth ministry, Boyd Evens, his pastor, said. He had traveled to a small
town in Mexico last year as part of a ministry that helped build a house for a poor family
who had been living in a shack. He had planned to enlist in the Army after graduation. ..."Please pray that the people in our community will be drawn toward God
because of this," Sean Sears, youth pastor of Westland Baptist Church in Denver,
said. "The churches have been hosting grief seminars and counseling services. Just
pray." ..."This isn't just a time of embracing and loving and hugging each other and
saying that we're going to make it," pastor Ken Summers of Dakota Ridge Assembly of
God said. Its also a time "to see people really turning to the Lord through
this situation. And just realizing that while we live in a day where incredible revival is
taking place, that there is a tremendous tide of evil and spiritual darkness that is at
work. This is not a time to trifle, but it's a time to trust God and choose who you're
going to trust and where you're going to find the strength of your life."
Millions of people heard the Gospel during funeral services for one of the victims of
the Columbine High School massacre in Colorado. 17-year-old Rachel Scott's funeral was
carried live on CNN and Fox news networks Saturday. Rachel's pastor, Rev. Bruce Porter
says CNN's broadcast of the funeral captured the greatest audience worldwide than anything
previous in the network's history. As part of the funeral the Gospel was shared in both
word and song. Many are praying that God uses this tragedy to bring many to Himself.
(Genesis 6:11-13 NKJV) The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was
filled with violence. {12} So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for
all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. {13} And God said to Noah, "The end
of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and
behold, I will destroy them with the earth. (Luke 17:26 NIV) "Just
as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.
(Matthew 24:4-14 NIV) Jesus answered:
"Watch out that no one deceives you. {5} For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, ' and will
deceive many. {6} You will hear of wars and rumors of
wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such
things must happen, but the end is still to come. {7} Nation will rise against nation,
and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be famines and earthquakes in various
places. {8} All these are the beginning of birth pains.
{9} "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all
nations because of me. {10} At that time many will turn away
from the faith and will betray and hate each other, {11} and
many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. {12} Because
of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, {13} but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. {14} And this gospel of the kingdom will
be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
